Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back to the final half term of the year.

If you have not received this newsletter via Parent Mail today then we have deleted you off the system. If you have not re-consented to receiving Parent Mail we are unable to communicate electronically with you and I urge you to contact the school office to re- register. We will not be sending out paper copies of the newsletter but they are available on our website each week.

This week we welcomed back Mrs Katie Salmon from maternity leave to Cherry Tree Class. Mrs Salmon now works for the first half of the week and Mrs Harris the latter half of the week. Mrs Salmon has however, decided that she would like to spend more time with her little boy and will be finishing with us in the summer.
We recruited a new teacher just before half term to replace Mrs Clare Collins. Mrs Jackie Tinsley will join us in September and is a very experienced teacher. I will provide details of where teachers will be in September in next week’s newsletter.

Peer Review
On the Thursday before half term we were visited by three members of the River Learning Trust who carried out a Peer Review. They specifically looked at maths plus Read Write Inc (RWI) and the impact this is having on reading and writing in the school. They have provided us with very useful feedback which will help us to build on the successes this year that were evident during their lesson observations, scrutiny of children’s work and conversations with pupils. There is no doubt that RWI is having a positive impact on children’s phonics and the Year 1 test next week should provide strong evidence of this.

Gardening Group
Huge thanks again to MJ Landscapes for donating paving slabs that we intend to use in our new vegetable garden. Our priorities now are to make planters, compost bins and lay foundations for a shed. Any help and donations of materials would be greatly appreciated. If you would be happy to lay paving slabs or make planters please contact the school office. The next 2 working parties will be Friday 15th June 8.40am to 10.15 and Saturday 23rd June 10am to 12pm where we will be meeting at the KS1 gate and children are welcome. Refreshments and some equipment are provided. We look forward to seeing you.

M and M Productions
M and M productions will be in school on the afternoon of 5th July and will perform ‘A Little Princess’ to Years R to 5 (Year 6 will be on transition visits to secondary schools).
Last year parents voted overwhelmingly for the school to continue booking this high quality theatre company and agreed to contribute towards the costs as the school is unable to cover it in our currently financial situation. There is a letter attached to the newsletter asking for a contribution of £2 for this production which I hope you will be able to support.

Lunchtime Supervisors
We are looking to recruit new Lunchtime Supervisors for September. If you are interested please look on our website for the job description and application form. We are looking for permanent workers and anyone who is willing to be called on a casual basis.

Reception Class Athletics
On Wednesday 27th June 2018, both Reception classes will attend the Witney Schools Partnership Early Years Athletics event at Wood Green School between 1.00 and 2.15 pm. We participate in this each year and it is a well-organised event, which the children thoroughly enjoy. Parents and carers do not need to attend.

Pupils must wear PE kit and trainers, and have warm clothing in case of poor weather and sun cream and hats for hot weather. Please ensure that your child has a water bottle in school on this day.

Please make sure that you have returned the consent form for taking and using photographs which was sent out last term, as photographs of your child may be taken and used in future publicity for the event.
