Dear Parents and Carers
We would like to say a huge thank you to M.J. Landscapes for donating soil and C & S Tree and Fencing services for felling a tree.
As the redevelopment of our school grounds into a fruit and vegetable garden continues the generosity of these companies has greatly helped us on our way to achieve this. M.J Landscapes have donated some more soil and we are looking for people to help move it as well as other essential jobs on Friday 18 May 8.40 to 10.15 and Saturday 19 May 10 to 12pm. We will be meeting near the sensory garden. Some equipment is provided, but if you could bring your own we would be grateful. We hope to see you there. This is such an exciting project and we thank you for your support.
I respectfully ask parents not to use our school car park during the morning drop off or the afternoon pick up. The car park is for school staff and Springfield School mini buses and taxis. On Thursday morning members of staff patrolled the gates and turned away 22 Madley Brook parent cars that tried to park in our car park. Please respect this request for the safety of everyone.
Regretably the PTA have to postpone the intended quiz on 18th May. Details of a new date to follow.

Each year the government selects a small amount of schools to take part in the national sampling of science attainment in primary schools. This year Madley Brook has been selected. Five pupils in Year 6 will be selected by the DfE to sit the test one day in June. Results are not passed onto schools and are not published. They are used to form an overall view of science in schools.
The deadline for nominations for parent governor is midday on Friday 11th May.
Eco Warriors and Battery Recycling
Our eco warriors gave a presentation in assembly on Monday about recycling and energy conservation in our school. We now have a battery recycling point. If you would like to take advantage of this please send your spent batteries to school and we will recycle them for you.
There are still a number of children scooting in the school grounds and on the paths from the gates. We have had a few accidents and near misses as the children scoot very quickly and this is dangerous. All children need to dismount at the school gates and we ask parents to be vigilant about this.
Read Write Inc Books
Children who are currently learning to read in one of our Read Write Inc groups will be bringing home some exciting new reading books today. These books are matched to the colour group they are in which means they shouldn’t be too challenging to read and will reinforce and consolidate sounds learnt in lessons. The books will be changed every week so please ensure they are returned by Friday as stated on the label. If books are not returned a new one won’t be issued. We are sorry to be so strict but books cost money and we cannot afford to keep buying new ones to replace ones not returned. We currently have over 50 books outstanding. We know your child will enjoy reading these new books and are confident they will improve their reading skills.
Kilvrough September 2018
There will be a meeting for parents and children on Monday 9th July at 6pm in the hall about the forthcoming residential trip.
The judges from Big Science Oxford are coming to school on May 23rd to talk to the children who won in our school competition.
