Dear Parents, Carers and Governors
Welcome back to school. I hope you had a lovely summer. I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new families who have joined us for the first time this year and to the new children who have started school. Also to Mrs Catherine Pritchard our new teacher in Lower Key Stage 2 who is sharing the class with Mrs McPherson.
Sadly over the summer two members of staff left us: Mrs Alison Mariani who has been a teaching assistant at the school for a number of years and Mr Barry West our Site Supervisor. We wish them both well in their new ventures.
Our happy news over the summer is that Mrs Katie Salmon gave birth to a baby boy. His name is Theodore and we congratulate her and her husband on their wonderful news.
We have a bumper edition of the newsletter this week so please do have your diaries at the ready!
We were delighted with our Inspection Report which we sent out to you on Wednesday and is now available on our website. We remain a good school and the inspector was very complimentary about the work of the school which is testament to everyone’s hard work. Staff and governors met on Monday to plan our work for the forthcoming year and we are focusing on maths and phonics in particular.
The PTA are launching their 100 Club this term as a fund raising activity. Please read the accompanying information and return your application forms to school next week if you would like to take part.
Please could you have a look at home to see if you have any school library books. We are missing over £400 worth that were loaned out last year but not returned. Thank you
We would like to purchase some new sports kits for our teams and are looking for sponsorship. If anyone knows of a business or company that would be happy to do this please could you ask them to get in touch with me or let me have contact details.
The running club will meet on 4 Tuesdays this term before entering the Oxford Half Marathon. Miss Jenkins and Miss Pratley would love some help from any parents (or teenage siblings) who would be interested in running. Please do get in touch.
Parents are invited to come and look at their children’s classrooms and books on the following dates this half term:
Friday 15th September 3.00pm
Tuesday 10th October 3pm
Further dates will be arranged for the second half of term.
Friday Class Assemblies will start at 2.30pm this term:

October 13th Beech Class
November 10th Maple Class

OXFORDSHIRE INJURY MINIMIZATION PROGRAMME FOR SCHOOLS (I.M.P.S.) is bidding to bag a massive cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.
Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores – being awarded to local community projects.
Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.
OXFORDSHIRE I.M.P.S. is one of the groups on the shortlist.
Please ask everyone you know to vote for I.M.P.S. to ensure we can carry on teaching local school children how to locate and use a defibrillator.
Please note our school benefits from the training provided by IMPS so I am sure they would appreciate any support they can get.

Many of you will have known Pauline Cuthill and will have been shocked and saddened by her sudden death over the summer. Pauline was a parent at the school for over 12 years and a colleague of ours, both a lunchtime supervisor and a teaching assistant, for 4 years up until 2015. I am not sure I ever saw Pauline without a smile on her face. Her kindness and generosity reached out to so many people and her energy and enthusiasm was infectious. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of so many people, not just her family’s, as she was very much part of the local community. Pauline’s family have been fund raising for the British Lung Foundation and recently held a raffle for her very many scarves. In tribute to Pauline we will be holding a ‘Wear a scarf for Pauline’ day on Wednesday 20th September with the aim of raising further money for the charity. Everyone who knew Pauline, or anyone who just wishes to support the charity, is invited to take part and make a donation on the day; staff, pupils and parents. Many children in Key Stage 2 will have worked with Pauline and will no doubt have their own memories of this wonderful person who touched the lives of so many people. Pauline’s husband and daughters are very heartened by everyone’s support so let us try to make this a memorable and colourful day for our dear friend, Pauline.
With best wishes
