Dear Parents, Carers and Governors
Thank you for your donations towards Children in Need last week. It was fairly low key for us here this year as it clashed with the school photographs. We have made sure that next year’s photos are not on a Friday! However, we did raise £224.87 for the charity.
Read Write Inc
We have introduced a new reading, phonics and spelling scheme this year called Read Write Inc. It starts in Reception and goes up to Year 2, although some children in Key Stage 2 are using the programme for some catch up intervention.
We carried out considerable research before making the decision to introduce Read Write Inc and the outcomes for children are excellent. All staff teaching the programme have been fully trained and we had a development day today with our consultant which was really useful. Children using the programme have brought home some information today and a little booklet explaining the sounds. I am sure your child will be able to show you all the sounds they have learned in such a short space of time and you can use the booklet to keep a record.
Next week children will be bringing reading books home that complement the programme and further information will follow.
A huge thank you to Paula and Rose Downes, Mel and Fin Edwards and Claire Smith for starting the transformation of the Bronze Barrow Sensory Garden last weekend. Your help is very much appreciated in our quest to provide a dynamic space for our children to learn, play and grow together. So much to do still, so, if you could spare some time, our next dates we are in the garden will be Friday 15 December 8.40am to 10.15am and Saturday 16 December 10am to 12pm. Follow us on Facebook ‘The Barrowers’ for developments, news and events.
PTA Christmas Disco
Please return your forms by Wednesday at the latest to ensure your place. Thank you
The PTA will be serving tea, coffee, mulled wine (evenings) and mince pies at the Christmas concerts for a small donation. If anyone is able to donate mince pies next week we would be very grateful.
Thank you to the parents who turned out for the AGM on Wednesday night. I have attached the treasurer’s report for your information and it is incredible what the PTA have managed to fund for the school this year. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all the committee members and volunteers who devote time and energy to making fund raising so successful at our school. I would like extend particular thanks to James Shryane who stepped down as our treasurer after a few years of service.
The PTA is important to our school, not only to raise much needed funds, but for organising a range of events for children and families. Thank you to everyone who has supported these events and contributed to the fundraising.
Year 1 Dance Festival
Year 1 will be joining children from other Witney Schools for a dance festival on Monday afternoon. They will be walking over after lunch and will require their PE kit and a water bottle.
