February 1st 2019

Our Current Value is: Respect

Dear Parents and Carers

The decision to close a school is never an easy one and it will not be the right decision for everyone.  However, we have to weigh up the safety of the site and the ability to run the school with sufficient staff.  With Witney still being in an amber weather warning zone for much of the morning today it was safer to make the decision to close.

School Lunch on Monday

As the school is closed today we cannot guarantee that the kitchen will receive its delivery in time for Monday’s planned lunch.  Therefore the menu on Monday will be today’s lunch (Friday) of fish or frittata.

Athletics Competition

Madley Brook took part in the indoor athletics competition at Wood Green on Monday. The 13 children who represented our school showed excellent determination when competing in the field events and they showed great team work during the relay track events. They should be really proud of their efforts.

A huge well done to Nelly Allott, Jessica Day and Jacob Hepworth who represented our school in the Boccia tournament on Thursday. They all tried so hard and showed great team spirit which led to them coming 2nd place in their pool. Well done.

School Nurse drop-in

Please feel free to drop in to the library on Monday 4th February between 10.00 a.m. and 11.00 a.m. for coffee and a chat with our School Nurse, Anita Pitcher, or with our SENCo, Mrs Burnett.

The choir will be performing at the O2 arena in London on Tuesday as part of the Young Voices Festival.  They will join 10,000 other school children for a wonderful performance.  They have been working really hard with Mrs McPherson to learn 17 songs to perform.  I know they will have an excellent day.

Children attending the concert (including siblings) may have a later start on Wednesday morning if you feel they need to sleep in as it will be past midnight before we return.

Car Park

Please remember that the school car park is for staff and Springfield transport only.  Parents and carers are not permitted to drop off in the morning or pick up in the afternoon.  Please ensure that if anyone other than yourself is picking your child up that they are aware of this.  The only exceptions to this are:

  • Parents / carers dropping at Breakfast Club
  • Parents / carers picking up or dropping off at Nursery during the lunch period
  • Parents / carers picking up from clubs at 4pm or later.

Thank you for your cooperation.

And finally….

It is with great sadness that I announce that Mrs Sue Illingworth will be leaving us next week with Tuesday as her last working day.  Mrs Illingworth has been a teaching assistant at the school for almost 10 years, mostly in Key Stage 1, and she will be very sadly missed by everyone.  She is about to embark on a new career and we wish her all the very best for this and thank her for all she has contributed to our school.

Miss Olivia Houliston, who is a teaching assistant in Lower Key Stage 2, and has been with us since September, will also be leaving us at the end of February to embark on her new career.  We thank her for her hard work and wish her all the very best for the future.

Have a great weekend.

Yours sincerely

Katherine Spencer
