Dear Parents, Carers and Governors
Welcome back to a new school term. I hope everyone enjoyed a restful holiday.
The A team showed good team work, pace and communicated well and came 6th in this week’s tournament. The B team did really well and got through to the semi-final but were unfortunately beaten.
Another tournament where our children should feel proud of their achievements. Well done teams.
It has been another successful Book Week at Madley Brook. The Book Challenge has been really well supported by parents and this is evident by the pictures, books, posters etc that have come in from home which have been lovely to see. There has been a real buzz around school this week with children reading and enjoying books at every opportunity, even over breakfast. There was great excitement when the bell was heard, signalling stop, drop and read and fabulous costumes on show today.
Thank you for your support with this event – it is very much appreciated.
Our healthy Tuck Shop continues to be extremely popular on Friday mornings and could not run without the support of parent helpers. Thank you to those of you who already volunteer regularly, and particularly to Mrs Nic Evans who co-ordinates the rota. We are always looking to recruit new volunteers so if you are able to give up one Friday morning a term to assist with Tuck Shop, please speak to Mrs Evans (Mum of Bronwyn in Elder, and Cecily in Maple) or to the school office.
We have been trialling a new system in the last few weeks for years 5 and 6 whereby pupils pre-order their tuck at morning registration. Their food is delivered to class ready for break time and this cuts down on the queuing at the Tuck Shop trolley. We appreciate that this new system has had its challenges for our Tuck Shop helpers, and thank them for their patience and understanding while we sort out the initial teething problems. From this week orders will only be taken for pupils in year 5 and 6 who have Tuck Shop cards and children who bring in money will need to queue up at the trolley. Tuck shop cards are available from the school office at a cost of £5.
Parent / Teacher Consultations
Appointments will be available for parents of children in Years 1 to 6 during the week beginning March 5th. The system will go live on Wednesday next week. Please note that only one appointment per pupil can be allocated and parents requiring a second, separate appointment are asked to contact Chloe in the office who will be able to book an appointment for you. Parents of children on the SEN register have a double appointment to be able to discuss your child’s Profile and you will need to ring the office on Monday or Tuesday and speak to Chloe who will book your appointments.
On Saturday we will be digging, pruning and clearing the space to make ready for planting vegetables.
In the near future there are two major tasks we need help with in order to complete our exciting new vegetable area. One is to cut down a tree and the second is to move a large quantity of soil and level the earth with a digger. Could you be a Barrower Garden Hero and help us? If you can, please contact the school office so we can arrange a time with you.
Thank you for your support from Claire Smith and Mel Edwards.
Being a Girl Guide Volunteer
Being a leader in Girlguiding is brilliant fun – in the last year we have been on day trips and residentials, held parties and challenge days, had visits from guide dogs, scientists, magicians, politicians and charities; been to libraries, fire stations and the fish and chip shop.
To make sure that this can keep happening we really need some more adults to come and help us. Two of our rainbow units are in danger of closing if we can’t find new leaders. Rainbows are aged 5-7 and enjoy crafts, games, singing and sometimes a little bit of being loud! The times and venues could be changed to suit new leaders.
So if you think you would enjoy doing something really worthwhile and rewarding, while at the same time having a lot of fun and sometimes eating chocolate, please do get in touch via the girl guiding website

It is with great sadness I inform you that Chloe Bartlett, one of our administrative assistants, will be leaving us at the end of term. Chloe will be very sadly missed. She is a very popular and friendly member of staff and I am sure many of you who have come to the school office will have been welcomed by her bright smile and cheerful attitude. We thank her wholeheartedly for her efficiency and organisation in the office and wish her well in her new ventures.
Have a great weekend.
