Dear Parents and Carers

Years 5 and 6 took part in a netball tournament on Tuesday at Wood Green and Madley. It is usually a very cold event being played in February but the sun shone for us. All 3 teams played to a great standard and showed excellent team work. They should be really proud of themselves for representing the school so well.

Science Week

What a fabulous week we have had at school. The children have been so excited about their experiments and the questions they pose get better and better each year. The in class judging is complete and the winners from each class will have presented to our panel of expert judges before the end of the day. Thanks to all the teachers for planning great activities for the children and to Miss Cuthbertson and Mrs Wakeling for organising the week.

Silver Smarties

Please return these to school by Monday if you are taking part in this fund raiser. Many thanks.

Tuck Shop Cards

Please note that from next week children wishing to buy items from the Tuck Shop must have a pre-paid card and no cash will be accepted. We are finding the administration of Tuck Shop very time consuming and it is eating into lesson time (if you will excuse the pun!) It is much easier and far more efficient for children to have a card.  These can be purchased from the school office or via your class teacher.  They cost £5 and will usually last a long time.   We let you know when the card is running low and when it needs to be replaced. Thanks for your cooperation.

Kilvrough Trip

The second instalment of £140 was due on 15th February for those families that selected Option 1 in the payment scheme.  Please arrange for your payment to be made to the school office before the end of next week.

Year 5

Year 5 will be going to the Methodist Church on Tuesday morning to ‘Experience Easter’. The visit is always so informative the children gain a lot from it.  They will be walking so appropriate outer clothing will be required.  If any parents can help out please let the office or Mr McPherson know as soon as possible.  We require at least three more parent helpers to accompany us.

PTA Events

The PTA met this week and have planned the following events:

Film Night                            15th March (flyer attached)

Easter Eggstravaganza   5th April 3pm

Family Bingo                       17th May 6pm

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 26th March at 7pm.

Gardening Group

Help needed!

Saturday 2 March and Sunday 3 March 9.30 onwards. Free bacon butties (veggie hot dogs) and refreshments!

We are very lucky to have H & OB Building Ltd working in Barrow Corner on Saturday and Sunday. Due to the use of diggers it will not be safe to have children on site. Sorry. However, if you can spare some time to help shovel cement, sand etc we would be very grateful as this is vital to help our team of builders and progress our exciting project. Please enter the school through the KS1 gate. Some equipment is provided but your trusty shovel and/or wheelbarrow might be useful! Thank you for your support.

Book Fair

Thank you to those who have supported our Book Fair this week. The last day for sales will be Monday in the library after school.

Momo Challenge

I am sure many of you will now have heard about the Momo Challenge that has hit the news and social media this week. I have attached some useful guidance for you in helping you to talk to your child about this latest fetish.   Some of it is scaremongering, some school of thought is that it is a hoax but nevertheless some children have been frightened by it. We believe that rather than banning your child from using the Internet that it is better to teach children how to protect themselves and how to deal with situations they come across that are either abusive, inappropriate, or frightening. Our message is report it, delete it and don’t go there again. We have spoken to the older children in school and reminded them how to behave responsibly when dealing with the Internet and social media.
