Dear Parents, Carers and Governors

Tuesday’s Big Science Finals were enjoyed by everyone at school. The day started with an excellent assembly delivered by our 7 judges, all parents or grandparents of children at the school, all of whom work in science. We had exploding liquids, learned about aspects of biochemistry, scans and biology and witnessed metals turning into silver and gold. The judges then listened to the presentations from each team’s finalists and the results will be announced in assembly this afternoon. Our thanks go to: Dr Merry, Dr Ferry, Prof Greaves, Dr Kuss, Dr Kuss, Dr Cuthill and Dr Frampton for giving up a day to join us with this event.

MP Visit
Robert Courts our MP visited the school on Tuesday and spoke to some of our children about their work. He said he was very interested in finding out more about local issues.

Madley’s got Talent
…is back! This year’s organisers Amy, Corey and Zoe have attached a form to the newsletter today seeking interested participants. Auditions will take place after the Easter holidays with the grand final on May 26th.

Congratulations to our newspaper team led by Mr Curtis for their bumper edition this term. They have given up lunchtimes to write and research their articles and they have done a splendid job once again. We hope you enjoy reading.

An update from the Governors
We have had a significant turnover of Governors this year, so we’ve been spending time getting a baseline on the school activities. We have made a number of visits to the school to observe teaching, review development areas and increase our understanding of everyday school life. We have been very impressed with quality of the teaching and the dedication of the staff. We are currently reviewing the budget for the next 3 years and it looks like it will be a challenge to make it balance.

We are making progress on the move towards becoming an academy and joining the River Learning Trust. We have submitted our application to the Department for Education (DfE) and are just beginning the due diligence and legal part of the process. If all goes well, we expect to be able to convert later this year in September or October.

Finally I’d like to thank everyone who helped to make the Creative Arts week such a success. A huge amount of effort went in to the preparation and the feedback we have had has been very positive.

Have a great Easter break.
