Our Current Value is: Positivity and Perseverance

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back to a new term. I hope you all enjoyed the wonderful Bank Holliday weekend weather.  We extend a warm welcome to our new families in the Nursery.

We also welcome three new Teaching Assistants who are working in the Nursery in the mornings this term: Mrs Sam Warburton (M, T, W), Mrs Louise Kinchin (Th) and Mrs Sara Kemp (F).

PTA Eggstravaganza

Thank you to everyone who supported this event on the last day of term. In total we raised £745.  Easter hampers were won by:

Rosie Trinder

Rosie Buckridge

Eric Pinto-Llazamares

Second Hand Uniform

The PTA will be running a second hand uniform sale in the Yellow Playground next Friday after school. If you have any shorts, summer dresses and uniform with logos that you can donate please send them to the school by Wednesday next week.  We have sufficient items of other forms of clothing.

Madley Park Activate

The school will be holding a Dress Down Day on the last day of this half term on Friday 24th May to raise money for the Activate Project.

The prospect of improved play areas on Madley is now becoming a reality!

As most of you will know, we have been fiercely fundraising for improved facilities for our children and young people on the playing fields (opposite the school) for the last few years and we are now within a few thousand pounds of our target!

More information, including designs for the new areas (which were put together after much consultation with children and parents) can be seen on our Facebook page, @ActivateMadley. The older children’s area will include a zip wire, multi-use games area and skate ramp. There will also be lots of fun equipment for younger ones, including a wheelchair accessible trampoline, basket swing, slide and much much more.

Our aim is for work on the new facilities to begin by the end of this summer, and it would be great to see children enjoying them soon but we need your help to reach our target. Thank you in advance for your donations!

Summer Concert

On June 13th the choir will be putting on a summer concert of music.  Children who play musical instruments are invited to take part and have been asked to meet with Mrs McPherson and Miss Fillary to declare their interests and to audition for the event next Wednesday.  Children may perform individually or as a group.  If anyone plays an instrument that is too big to bring to school for the audition e.g. an electric guitar or a drum kit then they are welcome to film themselves playing at home and submit for consideration.

Lower Key Stage 2 Egyptian Day

On Thursday 4th April, LKS2 had an Egyptian day, where they could dress up in Egyptian costumes. We dressed as mummies, pharoahs, slaves and some wore daily Egyptian clothing. On the day an Egyptologist came to the school and did some activities with all 3 classes. We did Egyptian writing using ink, carrying a pyramid stone and looked at a range of artefacts. In class we also mummified tomatoes and left them over Easter- the teachers are too scared to see what they look like now! Overall we had a great day and look forward to our next themed day.

Upper Key Stage 2 Roman Day

On the last day of term, Years 5 and 6 held an exciting Roman day. In the morning, children got to make clay busts, play Roman games (such as tabula) and became archaeologists when looking at Roman artefacts. In the afternoon, all the children took part in Roman battle formations and formed their own testudo (the Roman word for tortoise) to show how effective the Romans were in battle. The day ended with a Roman feast, where bread, honey, figs and fruit were served. All the children dressed in traditional Roman attire and fully immersed themselves in the day.
