Dear Parents and Carers

Congratulations to 5 children in the school who won the in-school competition for Big Science earlier on this year. They have been selected by the external judges to enter the grand final. They have been selected out of more than 100 entries so they have done exceptionally well to get to this stage of the competition. They are: Oscar Cocks, Rhys Montemayor, Freya Adkins, Alfie Jeffs and Harry Johnson. Well done everyone and have a fabulous fun filled science day at the grand finals at Abbotts Diabetes.

Casual Teaching Assistants
We are looking to recruit and train up any parents who would like to work as casual Teaching Assistants to help out when we are short staffed. If you would like to know more about this opportunity please pop in for a chat with either Mrs Burnett or me.

Initial Teacher Training
We have been hosting some first year students, Miss Saunders and Miss Baker, from Oxford Brookes University over the last 5 weeks. They have been working in Elder Class and Birch Class. They have done an exceptional job and we thank them for all they have done and wish them well with the rest of their studies.

Lunch Survey
I have sent a questionnaire home today regarding school lunches. It would be really useful if this could be done with child and parent together to provide us with valuable feedback.

We have a few changes and some movement of staff for September. Whilst the classes have not yet been finalised this is where teachers will be teaching:

Nursery Miss Zoe Watton
Reception Mrs Lorraine Harris
Reception Mrs Kirsty Ellis
Key Stage 1 Ms Ruth Evans (Team Leader)
Key Stage 1 Miss Sarah Fillary
Key Stage 1 Mrs Jackie Tinsley and Mrs Alice McPherson
Lower KS2 Mrs Lindsay Wakeling and Miss Emma Cuthbertson (Team Leaders)
Lower KS2 Mr Iain Curtis
Lower KS2 Miss Hope Edwards
Upper KS2 Mr Ben McPherson (Team Leader)
Upper KS2 Miss Gwen Jenkins
Upper KS2 Mrs Eleanor Robinson

Miss Edwards is a newly qualified teacher joining us for her first position. Mrs Bishop will continue to teach Mr McPherson’s Class on a Wednesday and Mrs Pritchard leaves us at the end of the year. We thank her for everything she had contributed to Madley Brook and wish her well for the future.

Mrs Caz Evans, teaching assistant in Reception, is also leaving us at the end of the summer to relocate to the West Country. Mrs Evans has been with us for 6 years, working mostly in Early Years and some Key Stage 1. Her cheerful smile and calm and patient manner will be missed by all. We wish her and her family all the best for the future.

Mrs Bradbury, who began her phased retirement three years ago is taking a further step towards it and will be retiring her position of Assistant Headteacher at the end of this term. Mrs Bradbury has been at the school since the day it opened and an Assistant Headteacher for 11 years. Almost every child passing through the school has either been taught or influenced by Mrs Bradbury and her creativity and inspirational leadership has led to many a dressing up day or themed week. I am pleased to say that she is not leaving us entirely and will be retuning for a day and a half in September to do some teaching and carrying on leading Read Write Inc.
