July 6th 2018
Dear Parents and Carers
Following our Parent Mail notification this week we have changed the timing of the Key Stage 2 Sports days to the morning given the hot weather. Just to summarise:
Tuesday 17th July 9.30am Key Stage 2
Wednesday 18th July 9.30am Key Stage 2 Integrated with Springfield
Nursery have also requested a change as the Nursery garden is very hot in the afternoons at the moment. We are cancelling the afternoon sports on Friday 20th and are inviting the afternoon children to come to the Sports Day in the morning at 10am (please arrive at 9.45am so we can put the children into groups). The afternoon children will leave after sports but can return to Nursery at 12.00pm.
I do apologies if the change in arrangements makes it difficult regarding pre-arranged commitments and work but we think it is a sensible decision. Our summers over the last few years have not been this hot, but we will definitely be taking this into account when planning next year’s – just in case (and in hope!)
New Teaching Assistant
We recruited a new teaching assistant this week who will work mainly in Key Stage 2. Olivia Houliston will be joining our team in September and we look forward to working with her.
Thank you so much for your questionnaires and the comments you have made. They are overwhelmingly positive and we will be taking on board your feedback. Limited clubs particularly for younger children is a common theme and we will certainly look at what we can improve in terms of our offer next year. Homework is another area where there is some unhappiness, although it is interesting to read your comments. Where you feel it could be improved I think as many people would like to see more as would like to see less. An interesting dilemma for us and one we will certainly address in September. I will send you a summary of the results with next week’s newsletter.
It is encouraging to see that you feel you can approach the school with any concerns. We aim to have good working relationships with parents and no concern is too small. Please always remember to make contact with your child’s teacher to discuss any concerns you have, or if you feel you need to escalate any issue contact me or Mrs Burnett. Thank you very much for your support.
Read Write Inc Books
Please return all Read Write Inc books by Friday 13th July so we can stock take.
M and M Productions
The children thoroughly enjoyed the production of A Little Princess today – apologies that they were out late! They are such a good theatre group; they perform to a really high standard with scenery, props and change of costumes throughout. But it doesn’t come cheap. Even with a contribution from parents and the PTA we are still £200 short of the bill. If you have intended to make a contribution but not yet done so, and if your child really enjoyed the play, then please do pass your money onto the office. Thank you.
The staff of both schools would like to raise some money to buy a bench for the playground in memory of Pauline Cuthill who was a parent and colleague at the school for many years. The first anniversary of her sudden passing is on Tuesday 24th July and we will be holding a cake sale in the Red Playground after school. Staff will be baking and parents are also invited to contribute but most of all we would like you to come along with your children to buy cakes. The theme for cakes (and the challenge!) is international. Pauline was a linguist and studied French and Italian at university. She was also learning to speak Swedish, spent some time in the USA, lived in England and of course was Scottish. So cakes representing these countries will be our challenge. If you would like to contribute a cake then please hand them to the school office or your child’s teacher on the morning of 24th July. Thank you.
