Dear Parents, Carers and Governors
What a week! We have been waiting for the Ofsted call all year and had almost given up thinking about it when it came out of the blue on Tuesday. The day went extremely well. When a school is already in the ‘good’ category we get what is called a Section 8 Inspection which is a one day short inspection to decide whether the school is still good. There is no report, just a letter to parents following the inspection. If during the day there is not enough evidence to support this judgement or it is thought that the school could be outstanding then it converts to a two day inspection.
I am pleased to say that our inspection went very well. We were inspected by one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI) who is the national lead for literacy, rather than an Ofsted inspector who is a serving Headteacher. She followed her lines of enquiry thoroughly throughout the day and left no stone unturned. We had a very good dialogue and she was very complimentary about our school and gave us a few actions to work on which we had already identified in our evaluation this year. She told us that the children were a credit to us (but we knew that anyway!)
Thank you for completing two questionnaires just recently. The outcome of the Ofsted one was pretty much identical to the one I sent out a couple of weeks ago. I attach the outcome for you today. Also, I would like to thank parents for their very helpful comments. We take on board what you say and we will be discussing these with staff and governors in the new school year.
M and M Productions
Thank you also for the feedback about the M and M Productions. The children really enjoyed the performance and we have rebooked for next year following your feedback.
Our Year 3/4 Gold Team headed off to the county finals last week and brought a winner’s trophy back with them! What a great result. They played so well and did the school proud. Well done team.
Yellow Sports Shirts
If your child has represented the school this year and has worn a yellow sports shirt please could you make sure you return these to school before the end of term. There are a number of them still outstanding.
School meals will increase to £2.20 in September. Children currently in Year 2 have now come to the end of their free school meal entitlement. Some children may be eligible for free school meals if their parents meet certain income criteria. Please contact the office if you think this may be the case and we will be able to check for you.
Please note that school clubs have now finished. After school club will run Monday to Thursday next week.
Next Friday the Nursery sessions are as follows:
Morning children 8.30 – 10.30am
Afternoon children 11.00am to 1.00pm

School is a busy place at the best of times but having an inspection adds extra pressure to everyone’s work load and time. I am so proud of the children, and staff, for the way everyone worked in the build up to this inspection. We have a wonderful team of teachers, teaching assistants, support staff and governors, all of whom support the school and do their best for the children and each other, for which I am truly appreciative. We are lucky to have such fantastic children to teach every day and thank parents for all the support they give to help us to do our jobs. I feel extremely privileged to be the Headteacher of Madley Brook and couldn’t wish for a better place to work.
Have a great weekend.
