September 28th 2018

Dear Parents and Carers

It has been a very busy week at school.

Secondary School Applications

Parents of children in Year 6 are invited to make applications for secondary school places for September 2019. It is best to apply on line using the following link:

Please note the closing date for applications is 31st October 2018

School Council

Children have been invited to apply to be the School Council rep for their class. Interested children will need to complete an application form and return to school by Wednesday 3rd October at the latest.  Voting will take place the following week.

Nasal Flu Immunisation

Earlier this week information about the nasal flu immunisation programmes was sent out to children in Reception, Years 1,2,3,4 and 5. The leaflet is also on our website under the letter section.  Please return your completed forms by 3rd October if you would like your child to be immunised.  Only forms returned by this date will be eligible for immunisation.  The school nurse team will be carrying out the immunisation on 5th November at the school.

Second Hand Uniform

We have an abundance of second hand uniform and will be holding a sale in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime please do not send any more donations as we have nowhere left to store them.

PTA Film Night

There is a letter about our next Film Night to be held on 12th October.  Please note that this film is a PG and parents are asked to consider if this is suitable for your child before you apply.

We are looking for some volunteers to help with our library on a weekly or a casual basis. This involves sorting books on the shelves, checking books in and out on our electronic system and general tidying.  If anyone is able to give us some time we would be very appreciative.  Please let Mr McPherson know your availability.  Thank you.

Parent Governor

The position for parent governor is still available. Please do get in touch if you are interested or want to know more about the role.

Pupil Census Day and Free School Meals

Next Thursday is our school census day. For the benefit of parents new to our school, we receive a certain amount of funding each year to provide the free school meals for our Reception and Key Stage 1 children.  An average is taken on our 3 census days over the course of the year and if the uptake is more that 87% then we receive additional funding.  If it is below 87% we have money clawed back from our budget.  School budgets are very tight at the moment and we are just about managing to break even.  If we could have as many children opting for a free school meal (in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) then we will receive badly needed additional funds for our school.  The menu, to attract as many children as possible, will be either cheese pizza or Spaghetti Bolognaise. Please note that the vegetarian option is a change to what is published on our menu.  This is the same menu for the whole school. I do hope you can encourage your child to try a meal that day if they are not regular partakers.  Thank you in anticipation of your support.
