Our Current Value is: Aspiration

Dear Parents and Carers

I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to all the children and staff (and parent spectators!) who took part in the Oxford Half Marathon last Sunday.  It was pouring rain! But that did not dampen anyone‘s spirits and the children were as enthusiastic as ever.  They all represented the school so well.  It was not officially a race but Ethan Clarke in Year 6 came first out of about 300 children and he completed the course in just over 6 minutes which is an amazing achievement. He was very closely followed by a number of our children who were all very well ‘placed’.  Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to Mrs Robinson, Mrs Noble and Mrs Tinsley who have been supporting and training the children.

Life Education Bus

Unfortunately, there was a technical issue with the bus this week and lessons have not been able to take place.  We have arranged for the bus to return later on this term.

Secondary School Applications

This is a reminder to parents of children in Year 6 that the application process for entry to secondary school in September 2020 closes on 31st October 2019.

Fruit and Veg Snacks

In addition to fresh fruit and veg snacks at break time children are allowed to bring the fruit bars that constitute ‘one of your five a day’.  Please do not send cereal bars.  Thank you for your cooperation

Parent / Teacher Consultations

The system goes live today for you to book your appointment.  It will close next Friday.

Class Assemblies

Fridays 2.30pm Parents Welcome:

November 8th    Willow Class

November 22nd Elder Class

November 29th Pine Class

School Transport

If your child is being transported to a school event and needs a car seat it would be really helpful if you could bring the car seat to school on the day of the event as we do not hold any spare seats in school.  Thank you.

With the wet weather we are having at the moment please ensure your child has a coat in school every day.

Food Bank

If you would like to donate to the Witney Food Bank for our Harvest collection, please do so before the end of next week.  Details of what they need were on last week’s newsletter.

Children in Need

This year’s theme is an active one: ‘Get Together, Get Active, Raise Money’.  Children are invited to come to school in sports kits on Friday 15th November in exchange for a donation to the charity. We will be joining in Joe Wicks’ live work out stream!

The list of clubs has come home today for Years 1 to 6. Choir continues on a Monday for children taking part in the O2 concert.  Please note that the running club will end in the Santa Run on the sixth session but there will be an additional payment for this and letters will go out to everyone in running club after half term asking if they would like to take part in the final session.

Helpers for Swimming

Pine Class will be swimming after half term and desperately need a parent volunteer to accompany them.  The class leaves school just after 9am and return just before 11am on Mondays starting on 11th November.  If anyone is able to help (just to accompany the children there and back, you don’t need to be pool side) then please let Mrs Robinson or the school office know even if it is just for one session so we can set up a rota which would be most helpful.

Scholastic Book Fair

Thank you so much for your support of the book fair last week.  We took a total of £1,461.03 in book sales which means we will receive £876.62 in rewards from Scholastic. This is fantastic and with our new library plans this is a welcome sum of money for us to spend.

Library Volunteers

We have introduced a number of parents as library volunteers this term and they have made a great start sorting out the library and making it a pleasant and exciting place for children to visit.

We are developing a love for reading this year.  Our children read well and they can comprehend what they read but instilling a love for reading is more difficult.  We are putting a lot of effort into that this year and thank parents for the great support you give at home to encourage children to read.  Reading is the key to everything and once children are fluent and confident readers it opens up so many other opportunities to them. Please keep encouraging your child.

And Finally…

I have some lovely news to share with you.  Miss Cuthbertson gave birth to her second child in the early hours of Monday morning.  Baby Oliver (Olly) arrived on his due date weighing in at 6lbs 14oz.  We congratulate her and her partner and can’t wait to meet him.

Have a great weekend.

Yours sincerely

Katherine Spencer
