Dear Parents and Carers

It has been a fantastic week at school this week with Big Science. Some of the questions the children came up with were so clever and really interesting; they have had a great time investigating their hypotheses and drawing conclusions. The week started with a thrilling assembly, which everyone enjoyed, and it just got better from there.

Today is big judging and I will publish the outcomes in the next newsletter.

Thank you to Mrs Wakeling for once again organising a great science week and to all the staff and children for their enthusiasm and hard work.

Governors’ Visiting Day
The governors spent the day in school on Tuesday. We do this as a group every year to gain further experience on what life is really like in school, and see how plans are being implemented. We were all very impressed. The children are so settled, confident and engaged in their learning. And the Big Science experiments were great to see! Thank you to all parents/carers, staff, volunteers – and of course the children – for your hard work.
Ed Kay: Chair of Governors

We welcome Mrs Roxi Peel an associate teacher with the SCITT (Oxfordshire School Centred Initial Teacher Training) this week. Mrs Peel will be working in Years 5 and 6 until the end of June.

School library
New opening times
From March the library will be open twice a week after school for children in EYFS and KS1 and their parents.
The library will be open from 3pm to 3.30pm on Mondays and Fridays. Please come in and share a story! Older siblings are also welcome. Children may borrow up to two books at a time. Please enter the school via the main reception.

Children in KS1 and KS2 can also visit the library every week at lunchtime from 12.30pm to 1pm. The lunchtime rota is as follows:
Mondays – KS1
Tuesdays – UKS2
Wednesdays – LKS2
Thursdays – Everybody welcome!
New books
Thanks to funding from the PTA, we have some exciting new books in the library. Thank you to all the children who have made suggestions about which titles they would like to see on the library bookshelves: please keep your recommendations coming!

On Line Payments
Thank you very much to all parents who completed our Survey Monkey about on line payments. Needless to say everyone was in favour of moving to this method of payment so we will be looking into this as soon as possible.

Year 1 Dance Festival
Year 1 will be going to the Dance Festival at Wood Green on Friday 28th February. They will leave here at 12.45pm and will return to school for home time. The children need to have their PE kit in school and have a water bottle to take with them.

And Finally…..
After much deliberation and soul searching I have decided that the time has come for me to leave Madley Brook and I have tendered my resignation to leave in July.

It has been my pleasure and privilege to serve as the headteacher of such a wonderful school, with such happy and motivated children, to work with such dedicated staff who always have children’s best interests at heart, and to benefit from the tremendous support from parents and governors. I will leave with so many happy memories.

Governors will be in touch after half term with details of the process to appoint a new headteacher.

Have a lovely half term.

Yours sincerely

Katherine Spencer
